I am so happy to present to you Greg Perkins, Second Helpings’ Volunteer of the Month for January 2024! Greg has made a huge impact in our Food Rescue program. Greg’s willingness to jump right in rescuing food, delivering meals, and helping with special events has been a tremendous help for our mission. Greg has also recruited friends to volunteer here at Second Helpings. We appreciate his care and love for serving our community.

Learn more about Greg in his own words below.

How did you become involved with Second Helpings?

Bob Koch, one of the founding chefs, gave me a full review of the organization and it definitely caught my interest as an organization with the right mission.

What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?

Since my kitchen skills are somewhat suspect, I have focused on meal deliveries, food rescue and Hub-related tasks.

What have you liked best about volunteering with us?

Meeting other volunteers and staff and learning about their lives.

What are you most proud of accomplishing through your volunteer work here?

It is amazing seeing all the tasks it takes to accomplish the mission at Second Helpings and so I am most proud just being part of that effort.

What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?

Deb and I like to travel and attend our grandkids activities. I am also very focused on trying to stay fit.

Do you volunteer for any other organization?

I volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul as a conference treasurer, work at their food pantry, and deliver needed furniture and household items. I also serve on the finance committee for Roncalli High School and assist at youth track meets.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

People have misidentified me as Terry Bradshaw and/or James Taylor many times in public. Unfortunately, I cannot throw a football or carry any tune so the resemblance ends there.
