In the United States, more than 1/3 of all available food goes uneaten through loss or waste. That’s one pound of food for every man, woman and child in this country every day of the year. Food waste severely impacts food security and the environment. To put this into perspective, if global food waste was a country, it would be number three behind China and the United States in terms of greenhouse gas emissions released into the environment.
For more than 20 years, Second Helpings has been a leader in the fight to reduce food waste. We work with wholesalers, grocery stores, farmers, caterers, restaurants and event centers to make Central Indiana’s food system more efficient and less wasteful across the supply chain. Since we started, we have rescued more than 33 million pounds of food. Are you interested in joining the fight against local food waste?
