On average, every man, woman, and child in America throws away about a pound of food every day. That’s about 27 percent of our available food supply—going right into the trash.

At Second Helpings, we rescue prepared and perishable food, re-prepare it into nutritious meals, and distribute those meals to over 50 social services organizations that feed hungry people. We also use some of the food we rescue to train disadvantaged adults for careers in the culinary field, helping to eliminate hunger at its source.

Since 1998, we have collected eight million pounds of food and provided nearly 3.3 million meals to recipient agencies. More than 300 adults have graduated from our Culinary Job Training Program.

And since that time, Second Helpings has been recognized within the community. For instance, Second Helpings was recently honored at the third annual Indiana Entrepreneur Awards of Distinction by the Indiana University Kelley School of Business and the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Second Helpings is also a two-time Indiana Achievement Award winner, and we were presented the 2007 Cultural Vision Award from Nuvo Magazine.

So please take a look at the site and find out what you can do help us end food waste, poverty, and hunger in Central Indiana. We need your time, your talent, and your support—today more than ever.
