One of the most joyful moments as Manager of Volunteer Services at Second Helpings is to announce or Volunteer of the Month. I am so happy to introduce Noli Bentley, our Volunteer of the Month for June! Noli has been a great addition to our fabulous Second Helpings volunteer family. Noli spends her time here in Hunger Relief chopping all the great produce we rescue and she has also jumped in and been a great lead for volunteer groups. Thanks, Noli for the time you spend with us, you are amazing!

Learn more about Noli in her own words below.

How did you become involved with Second Helpings?

A group of Chase employees took a tour of the Second Helpings facility many years ago. I was so impressed with the operation that I decided to become a volunteer when I retired. That plan was put on hold because I retired right before COVID; however, I eventually started volunteering early in 2022.

What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?

I have worked primarily as a Produce Chopper, but I have done multiple shifts as a Sandwich Maker and Pan Wrapper. When I first arrived, I was asked to sort bread, but I guess I did not execute well because I was never asked to do that again! I have been asked several times to lead volunteer groups so maybe I have redeemed myself!

What have you liked best about volunteering with us?

I thoroughly enjoy the people I work with on Mondays and Wednesdays each week and consider many as friends.

What are you most proud of accomplishing through your volunteer work here?

I’m always proud when I end my shift knowing that my coworkers and I have played a major role in helping to prepare meals that feed Hoosiers in need.

What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?

I am Treasurer of the Indianapolis Ski Club. Although not a charity, it is a non-for-profit and keeps me very busy especially this time of year. Check it out!

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I am deathly afraid of the Buffalo Chopper!

What was your happiest experience at Second Helpings?

I am especially happy on the Monday afternoon shifts when all the Produce Chopper gals have our 70s music sing-along sessions. We’re just waiting to be discovered!
