Name: Kevin Kotansky

Title: Food Rescue Driver

How long have you worked at Second Helpings?

I started in February 2019, so over four years now.

What do you like most about your job?

Every day is a challenge to see how much food we can rescue from the variety of donors we pick up from. It’s exciting to see how many donations and pounds we pick up daily. Also, all the various people I’ve met at Second Helpings and donation stops that are now friends.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

I was once told “the more you know, the longer you can stay.” I tried to expand that into lessons of communication, listening and technology that applied to my various positions in my career. Treating people and co-workers with respect came naturally to me.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Having retired from a career at Kroger, I now find it satisfying working for a non-profit organization that Kroger still supports very generously. I’d still find myself volunteering at different agencies if not employed part time at Second Helpings.

Where is your favorite place to be?

My favorite places to be are traveling with my wife, watching live sports, attending auto racing tracks, and classic rock concerts.

Favorite line from a movie or book?

From Clint Eastwood’s famous Dirty Harry movie: “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”
