Minimizing Our Internal Waste:

On average, Second Helpings rescues 13,800 pounds of food per day. Around 12,600 pounds of that food we are used to feed the community either through out hunger relief program or by redirecting it to churches, food pantries, food banks, etc. The other 1,200 pounds of food/packaging that is considered spoiled or unfit will be handled my Second Helpings to be composted or sent to our recycling facilities. Our compost gets repurposed with the help of, Green With Indy and our recycling is taken care of through the services of GHW Waste Services and RecycleForce

We also use rescued goods for a significant amount of our office and break room supplies in adherence to our commitment to reducing waste.

Through our recycling and composting partners, our education efforts, and extremely dedicated community, Second Helpings diverted …insert percentage… of its waste from July 2025 to July 2026. Rather than polluting our landfills, this waste has been repurposed into productive materials as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by producing compost.

As Second Helpings is always looking to better our impact on the world around us, we are extremely proud of the positive influence we have had on the Indianapolis community. We will continue to strive for the most effective ways to minimize our waste systems produced and increase our diversion rates.
