As we approach the end of the year, we’re looking back on some of our top stories that defined 2022 at Second Helpings.

Redesigned CJT Program

This summer our Culinary Job Training team reviewed the program’s format and curriculum, and launched the redesigned program in August. The program has a renewed focus on strengthening the durable skills graduates will take with them to any job. Also woven throughout this program is intentional integration with employers in the culinary industry, from site visits to personalized job shadowing opportunities and paid internships.

Class 151 graduated in November (you can watch their moving graduation ceremony here). Class 152 graduates January 20, and enrollment is open for future classes!

Flex Space Remodel

We spent much of this year under construction! Our small warehouse was transformed into a new flex space for meal preparation, food distribution, larger meetings, and more. This project was funded in part by the Glick Fund, Thurston Foundation, and David Weekley Homes.

We also welcomed larger volunteer groups back to Second Helpings this year, and we look forward to hosting even more, and even bigger, groups in our new space next year!

In-Person Events Returned

In 2022, we were thrilled to bring both Corks and Forks and Tonic Ball back in person, after two years of virtual events!

In March, we celebrated with a food and beverage journey inside exclusive spaces at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Corks & Forks, presented by Kroger. This event raised enough money to provide more than 178,000 meals to feed our neighbors across central Indiana.

In November, Tonic Ball returned in person across five music venues in Fountain Square. This event raised enough money to provide more than 125,000 meals this winter.

We can’t wait to bring Souper Bowls back in person on February 4, 2023. Grab your tickets now!

We’re excited for what the future holds for the organization as we continue to transform lives through the power of food.

Thank you for your support this year – you made it possible for Second Helpings to focus on serving the people who need our services.

As we prepare for 2023, you can continue to spread hope and transform lives with a gift to Second Helpings. You can make a gift of time by signing up to volunteer, and you can make a financial contribution with an online donation.
