Meet Super Volunteer Magen Peters, our June Volunteer of the Month! From helping out in the hub to diving into food rescue and front desk duties, Magen brings energy, heart, and humor to every shift. Get to know more about what inspires her to keep coming back—and the surprising fact about her Twitter account—below!

How did you become involved with Second Helpings?

I became involved originally in 2020 during COVID but didn’t come back to volunteer again until this winter. Michelle’s persistent need for volunteers pulled me back in!

What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?

I’ve volunteered in laundry, the hub and food rescue and front desk – the hub is the most fun so far!

What have you liked best about volunteering at Second Helpings?

This is such a fun place to volunteer – it’s hard to find anyone in a bad mood most days and it just feels good to be in a place doing something good in our community.

What are you most proud of accomplishing through your volunteer work here?

Hearing some of the food rescue stats are so cool knowing I’m a part of that. It was fun to clean out all the bins for the Gr8t Pasta Push!

What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?

I work for a design & build firm where I manage digital media and in my free time, I’m usually playing tennis, playing with my dog Princess Peach or hanging out with my daughter, Lilly.

Do you volunteer for any other organization?

IACS/Friends of Indy Animals – if I could, I would bring home every dog! But my dog would kick me out.

Constructing Our Future – we support women re-entering society from incarceration with housing and support to help them get back on their feet.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

My twitter account is older than my daughter and my daughter is taller than me.
