Outreach youth receiving services

Once a week the youth served at Outreach have access to community partners who assist with obtaining identification, employment, health insurance, and more accompanied by a hearty Second Helpings meal.

Second Helpings meals

Since the partnership with Outreach began in 2016, Second Helpings has provided the youth served with 9,177 meals and 10,875 pounds of bulk food.

During the holidays, you understand the significance of sharing a delicious, home-cooked meal with someone who cares for you. The simple joy of linking food and love are part of our holiday season that we share with friends and family alike. Every day Second Helpings shares thousands of healthy, homestyle meals with our Central Indiana neighbors who might not otherwise have enough to eat.

Your gift to Second Helpings transforms donated ingredients into quality, nutritious meals for more than 90 partner agencies in Central Indiana. This is part of our mission to #FeedIndy.

For homeless youth in Indianapolis, Second Helpings meals go far beyond satisfying hunger pains. Jason Chenoweth, CEO of Outreach Indiana, a Second Helpings partner agency, stresses the importance of our “homestyle” cooking for his guests.

“While you’re meeting that biological need, it meets the emotional, the spiritual—all those needs get met around a meal. The ability to provide meals for the youth just opens so many doors into their lives, it actually moves them deeply towards stability at a faster rate.

Second Helpings’ meals restore social well-being, bringing people together over delicious food. Your gifts help create more than a million meals a year—and the connections that follow. Your gift today means more than 4,500 people each day in Central Indiana enjoy a tasty, homestyle meal.

Our mission to #FeedIndy is to transform lives through the power of food – whether through each graduate of our Culinary Job Training program or each meal served in the community; food is a powerful force for change.

As Jason at Outreach explains, “Food is central to human connection. If you and I were going to have a meeting we’d grab a coffee or lunch. It’s true for the youth we serve, too. That’s why we’re so grateful for Second Helpings. Meeting over meals creates opportunities for youth to build relationships. People need to know that when they give to Second Helpings, they save our scarce resources for other services the youth need.”

Second Helpings provides the first step to connect people with people: nourishing, hot meals and items needed for food pantries. Your gift today provides the resources to turn unused food into meals. As we can see with the youth at Outreach, the meals from Second Helpings are more than a meal – they are a pathway to relationships and success.

This holiday season help us share the joy of food by joining in our mission to feed and nourish Central Indiana neighbors in need. Will you make a gift of $120 to provide 100 meals to the homeless youth served at Outreach, or whatever amount you can?

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of your neighbors and your community, and please accept our best wishes for a happy holiday season.

It costs just $1.20 to send a meal to someone in need this holiday season. Every gift to Second Helpings has a big impact.

“Second Helpings brings us good food. That speaks value to the kids. With Second Helpings, we can create an environment just like when you invite your friends over. That meal means you’re safe. You’re loved. You’re cared for.” – Jason Chenoweth, CEO of Outreach Indiana.
