What does it look like when a community partner truly shows up?
This year, our friends at Humana answered that question in more ways than one.
Humana underwrote five full days of meals from our Hunger Relief kitchen. With Second Helpings preparing and distributing about 6,000 meals each day, their support helped send approximately 30,000 nutritious meals into the central Indiana community.
That’s 30,000 meals headed to local shelters, after-school programs, senior centers and other nonprofit partners serving our neighbors.
But Humana didn’t stop at funding the meals. They showed up to help make those delicious meals, too.
Humana employees joined us at Second Helpings for volunteer shifts, rolling up their sleeves alongside our staff and other volunteers to help prepare the very meals their sponsorship helped make possible.
Their partnership extended beyond our kitchen as well. Humana provided critical marketing support to help us strengthen the way we tell our story and connect more people to our mission. They also hosted Second Helpings for a virtual Lunch & Learn, giving us the opportunity to introduce more Humana employees to our work and share ways they can get involved in fighting hunger across central Indiana.
It’s a wonderful example of what partnership can look like: give, volunteer, share your expertise and invite others in.
At Second Helpings, we know we can’t fight hunger alone. Preparing thousands of meals every day takes food donors, volunteers, financial supporters, nonprofit partners and companies willing to invest in the community we all share.
Humana found multiple ways to be part of that community this year.
To everyone at Humana who donated, volunteered, shared their talents, learned more about our mission and helped spread the word: thank you.
Because of you, thousands of our neighbors received a nutritious meal, and your impact reached well beyond those five days.
We’re grateful to have you fighting hunger alongside us.
