Minimizing Our Internal Waste:

Each day, we receive over 17,000 lbs of rescued food. This often includes some spoiled food and packaging that we then divert from landfills and send to composting and recycling facilities. This allows us to make the largest overall positive impact that we can with conserving resources. To do this, we compost through Green With Indy and recycle through GHW Waste Services and RecycleForce.

We also use rescued goods for a significant amount of our office and break room supplies in adherence to our commitment to reducing waste.

Through our recycling and composting partners, education efforts, and dedicated community, Second Helpings diverted 47.6% of its waste in 2024. Instead of going to landfills, this waste has been turned into usable materials and healthy compost.

While there are still improvements we hope to make within our waste stream, we are proud of where we have been able to get so far. Going forward, we hope to maintain or increase our diversion rate.
