In moments of uncertainty, Second Helpings acts with purpose. Today, with the future of federal SNAP benefits unclear and the government shutdown ongoing, families across Central Indiana are left wondering how they'll feed their families. While Second Helpings doesn't serve individuals directly, we support more than 200 community programs that do and those organizations are readying themselves for rising demand.

Each day, we prepare and deliver over 5,600 meals. But, these aren't just meals, they're connection points. They go to shelters, senior centers, youth programs, and recovery facilities. And we know the need could grow.

That's why we're acting now. We've added a second warehouse facility to help us safely store and redistribute food donations, and we're optimizing our kitchen operations to prepare for potential increases including possibly adding staff and new volunteer shifts.

Here's how you can help:

Donate – so we're ready, no matter what.

Volunteer – in the kitchen, on delivery routes, or through food rescue.

Host a food drive – focusing on staple ingredients we use daily like pasta and rice.

The situation is fluid, and we may not know what's coming, but we know our partners are counting on us. And we're counting on you.

Together, we can ensure that food reaches those who need it most, no matter the circumstances.
