Kitchen Assistant
With guidance from the director of hunger relief, the kitchen
assistant provides support to the food production manager
in preparing the 3,000 meals that are distributed daily.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares food based on instructions of kitchen staff
members.
- Helps with kitchen clean up following food preparation.
- May occasionally supervise job trainees or other volunteers
in food preparation.
Experience Required:
- Attend our volunteer orientation.
- Be able to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for four hours
- Be at least 16 years old.

Driver
Volunteer drivers use Second Helpings’ vehicles to deliver
meals. Some drivers also pick up food donations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Loads outgoing meals and delivers them to recipient
agencies.
- Monitors the quality of meals being sent out.
- Monitors proper safe food handling storage/handling
practices at the recipient agencies and reports any violations
to Second Helpings.
- Sanitizes pans & thermal units returned from shelters.
- Maintains cleanliness of vehicle.
Experience Required:
- Attend our volunteer orientation..
- Knowledge of community streets and ability to read maps
a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively with donors and recipients
- Ability to maintain positive community relationships.
- Heavy lifting required.
- Must be at least 25 years old and have a valid driver’s
license.
- Must have an acceptable BMV record.
Available Shifts:
Monday - Saturday: 9:30 am - noon
Driver Companion
Driver companions assist the drivers. The age requirement
is 16 years old. No driving is required.
Available Shifts:
Monday - Saturday: 9:30 am - noon
Receptionist/Office Assistant
The receptionist/office assistant helps out with office
functions, including correspondence and accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in office functions based upon direction from
the executive director and volunteer director.
- Helping with tasks which may include: answering phone, greeting guests at the front door, data entry, mailings, assembling materials, preparing reports, acknowledging donors, etc.
Experience Required
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to type and operate a personal computer.
- Must be at least 16 years old

Job Skills Trainer
The job skill trainer provides training and guidance to individuals who are seeking job skills and employment opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop training session(s) to provide fundamental information in areas such as: culinary skills, resume writing, job search skills, interviewing techniques, etc.
- Present training sessions either in group settings or on an individual basis, as needed.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make modifications, if indicated.
- Gather information about community resources, which may be helpful to job seekers, and disseminate information as appropriate.
Experience Required
- Strong communication and presentation skills and experience in Culinary Field or Human Resources needed.
- Ability to work with diverse populations a must, and experience in culinary field or human resources.
