A Note from Wendy

My first impression of Second Helpings: “WOW!” It is amazing to see all that is accomplished on a daily basis - food rescued, thousands of meals prepared, and students preparing for new careers. All of this completed with joyful-enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment by an army of volunteers and a handful of staff members. Unbelievable!

A lasting impression: Although my experience with Second Helpings was just a short five weeks, I take away so much.

  • I have an image of dozens of smiling faces dripping with perspiration as they chop and stir in the kitchen.
  • I have a glimpse of the hunger relief effort being made in my hometown.
  • I smile when I see a bike on the Monon trail and remember the concern for Bud’s bike (and the purses, too).

But what I am most impressed by is the lasting friendships and caring community, created almost magically, among the family of volunteers. This is something to treasure, preserve and be very proud of, as it doesn’t happen often.

Thank you for the opportunity to share in your community!
