Serving Passion on a Plate: Robbie Caldwell

Submitted November 01, 2011 by Ben Shine | 0 comments

Good afternoon. Giving all honor and glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ first. Second I would like to say something to Chef Dewitt Jackson: Chef, it was your story that was printed in the Indianapolis Star in November of 2010 that got me here to second helpings. Your story gave me the courage to walk in my fear and for that I’m truly grateful. Thank you, Chef.

I would like to give a very special thanks to my biggest supporter - my husband James who never complained when I was too tired to put dinner on the table. He always made sure every night that my uniform was washed and pressed for class each day.

To my 89 year-old friend and mother-in-love, Mary Caldwell, who couldn’t be here today, but who would all ways made it a point to see me off with a word of encouragement every morning.

To my sisters Alice, Mae and Elnora, who are my cheerleaders and best friends and my prayer warriors when I needed to be encouraged. Thanks for your understanding when I couldn’t be with our family for special occasions or just sister time.

I would like to give thanks to Ivy Tech for your sponsorship that made this opportunity possible for each of us. I’m humble by the very thought of your generosity. And for each and every Chef who took the time to teach and encourage us to continue our journey as an American Culinarian.

To the founders of Second Helpings thank you for recognizing a need in our communities here in Indianapolis and stepping up to the day to day challenge in making sure no man, woman, boy or child goes hungry. And to the staff and volunteers I can’t thank you all enough.

To Ms. Lorraine, our case manager thanks for all your help and congratulation on your new home.

And last but not least, I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Chef Sam Brown for serving your passion on a plate; the best meal I ever eaten was of your time, your talent and all of your knowledge, garnish with your wisdom. Chef Brown I thank you from the very bottom of my heart!

To my classmates I wish God’s very best for each of you!

-Robbie Caldwell
