Partnership Spotlight: Wheeler Mission Ministries

Here is a post from the Wheeler Mission Ministries blog, highlighting the partnership between their organization and Second Helpings. Besides training some of their residents in the culinary arts, Wheeler Mission Ministries is also a meal recipient of our Hunger Relief program. We sent over 160,000 meals through their three part ministry: Wheeler Mission, Lighthouse Men's Mission and Center for Women and Children.

Second Helpings is a proud partner of an amazing organization that has served Indianapolis for over 100 years.

Second Helpings and Second Chances

Because homelessness cannot be alleviated by one institution alone, many programs and organizations in our city must work together to bring solutions to the issue. Wheeler enjoys one such partnership with Second Helpings. Together, Wheeler Mission and Second Helpings give second chances.

Second Helpings is a food rescue organization that also provides culinary training and food handling certifications for Wheeler clients. It’s a practical job training program that helps the client obtain sustainable employment.

A recent Wheeler Addiction Recovery Program graduate also completed her training at Second Helpings. She has turned her talents and love for cooking into new opportunities. After years of substance abuse and unemployment, she now desires to spend her time, energy, and attention to providing enjoyable and well prepared meals. She has been clean and sober for more than two years, is employed full time, and living on her own.

This is the kind of partnership that works!
