Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch...
Exciting things are happening at the Second Helpings’ building, the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Center. The sounds of drills, jackhammers, and saws have replaced the sounds of pots clanging, oven timers beeping, and people talking in the Hunger Relief production kitchen. All of that is going on over at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, where our kitchen staff, drivers, and volunteers are temporarily working while construction is underway on the Hunger Relief production kitchen and storage areas.
It’s been too quiet here. The Hunger Relief volunteers aren’t here. They haven’t been here since December 5th.
I miss them. I want them back.
Second Helpings is blessed with wonderful, energetic volunteers. They work in all aspects of operations, from entering data to driving delivery vans. The people who volunteer in the administrative offices have continued to work here during construction, and I am grateful. They brave the dust and noise to keep our offices running, and they bring their positive attitudes and energy with them.Which is why I want the rest of the volunteers to come back.
Sure, they work hard and prepare thousands of meals every day—but they also bring their positive energy and senses of humor with them when they work at Second Helpings.
I think that’s what I miss the most—being around dozens of people, every day, who want to make the world a better place. They work hard, they tell good jokes, they give great hugs, and they are kind.
And they’re coming back next week!
