Chocolate Day for Class #64

I teach a class on truffle making to the culinary students at Second Helpings. Teaching these students about truffles is more than just giving them an additional skill to give them an edge in the culinary industry. Although chocolate is a pretty specialized field, a student doesn't have to become a chocolatier to have this skill effect their life.

One student sent me a thank you note and let me know that because of the truffle making class, she is starting a new tradition with her family. Her family will gather together to have a truffle making day once a year and she will teach them the pleasure of making chocolate truffles. This is a chance for this student to spend quality time with her family, that will help build the bonds between them. Building better families builds better communities. Knowing that maybe I've made a difference in this one student's family makes the effort worth it for me.
