Agency Spotlight: Horizon Christian Preschool & Childcare Central

Horizon Christian Preschool (located on Palmer Avenue south of Fountain Square) is a very unique place. The first time I walked into the building I fell in love with the architecture: an old IPS school with tall ceilings, wooden floors throughout and large windows that actually open. However, what really makes this place special is the lady that runs it. Debbie Treeter started out as a teacher for Horizon Christian Preschool when they opened their doors in 2003. Several years later the director left and Debbie laughs and says she got the director job because she happened to know more about the place than anyone else at the time.

She has a passion for what she does. Debbie lives down the street, went to the school and her kids went to the school. This is home. Her love for the kids comes naturally. As she gave me a tour of the place she opened the door to the room where the 5 months to 2 year olds were napping. One little girl was restless so Debbie picked up little 5 month old Spirit and she toured with us. Shortly thereafter another teacher offered to take Spirit so Debbie can continue our tour. She laughed and said “we all need our baby fix”. In the hallway the little boys ran up to us, eager to tell a story about their day and she patiently listened and we then moved on.

As we concluded our visit, I walked away thinking, “Sure wish there had been a fun place like that when I was a kid”.
